Rangoli is the art of the moment, like the sand sculptures or street paintings. Generally traditional rangoli designs are geometric and proportioned. As per time changes the newer themes and variations been arrived in this form art. Rangoli are done in different sizes from the size of doormat to the size of the entire room. In the olden times rangoli was done in small patterns but now as time changes entrance of the homes, wedding halls, large area of floor of the hotel foyers are covered with intricate and detailed rangoli designs. Rangoli patterns was traditionally done on the auspicious occasions and festival but today it also done on weddings, birth parties, opening ceremonies, corporate parties etc.
MATERIALS USED IN RANGOLIS
COLORS:
We can find everywhere the materials used to make rangoli. Variety of ingredients is used in the creation of rangoli. The basic color of rangoli is white which is known as `chirodi’. In day to day rangolis rice paste or dry rice powder are used to draw the lines and the geometric and symmetric shapes. Rice powder is used because it is white in color and readily available at the homes rich and poor. Rice is the sign of prosperity.
On the festive occasions large designs are drawn on the entrance of the house and then outlined by the white stone paste or chalk as it becomes easy to apply colors. The other symbol of prosperity is yellow so we can use turmeric which is yellow in color to fill the white outlines of the design. Vermilion or kumkum is also used to the inner fillings of the rangoli outline.Rangoli colors are generally made from natural dyes , bark of a trees, leaves, and also indigo. 3D rangolis rangoli design examples are done with grains and seeds of pulses, beads and flowers. In the present day colored powder is directly used for the fancy decorations. For detailed work generally coarse grain powder mixed with base colors. If the rangoli is to be made on the surface of the water saw dust base colors can be used.
CRYSTAL SALT
It is the pebble like material generally used to give 3D effects. Sprinkle the color powder after filling crystal salt in your design.
PAPER AND PENCIL
You can use paper and pencil to draw the outline of design which you are going to draw in front of your house.
WARM WATER
If you want to create the bright color, take raw color and pour warm water in it and keep it in shadowy place to dry after blending and mixing the sand with it.
